Chorlton Book Festival Event

Hi - I am one of four authors doing a trailblazer event at Chorlton Library on Saturday 18th October.
We will all be talking about our books then there will be a chance to buy copies of the books, get them signed and have a friendly chat!! I will be showing some sketches and talking about how the book came about and how the character and story developed.

It is from 7 - 9.30pm and there may even be some drinks afterwards....

Project with Young People at ARC

Here are some images from a project I did with young people at ARC in Stockport, Manchester.

It was a great one day project working with two groups. The first group were 4 - 7 year olds. They were given the theme of going into the shed, but once inside it could be whatever they wanted it to be. They were each given the start of a sentence which they then had to create a short story and illustrate it. They had just over 4 hours to complete an A1 page each using collage and a range of materials It was a busy day!

The second group were 7-11 year olds and they did the same project. They took longer to come up with a story but managed to complete the project by the end of the day!

These are the models of the books that they produced.

Well done guys!

Frog Biscuits!!

On one of the pages in my book 'The Boy Who Really Really Really Loves Lizards'  we come across Oliver's favourite frog biscuits.

One of the bookmarks has a recipe on the back so you too can make your own biscuits (providing you have a frog cookie cutter...)  Here is a typical Saturday in our household attempting to make them!

First mix all the ingredients as directed on the bookmark and attempt to stop the kids from eating it and getting more of the contents on the floor, the work surface or in their mouths than in the mixing bowl....

Roll it out and cut your shapes out - the feet and arms are really really really hard to keep on but we did not do too bad...

The next thing is to bake them ... and they come out more like toads than frogs with most of the arms and legs still attached. Notice we also made a couple of snails with the left over bits!

The next bit is the kids favourite bit  - icing the biscuits - and this is where -again - most of it goes the wrong way and into their mouths rather than on the frogs...

The biscuits are now complete - and if you get the chance, leave them until the icing has set.

Then the biscuits are finished and ready to eat!! Enjoy!

And here are some I made earlier....

Send me pictures of your frog biscuits and see who can come up with the best ones!!
